Wayne Barrer put it best: I love working with computers!
Something he enjoys most is working with computer-aided design.
For that reason, he is a certified AutoCAD instructor. You would
think that someone this interested in computers would only have
time for that. Think again. This computer enthusiast is also an
outdoors man who lists fishing and camping as some of his
favourites. He also took part in the Cubs, Scouts and Venture as
a leader for over 15 years.
When asked why he would choose St. Lawrence College as an educational
institution, Wayne proceeded to tell us an interesting story. I
went to Queens. I would have never thought of going to college.
When I went back to school [for Electrical Engineering] I was looking
at universities, and I found it to be really theoretical. I wanted
something else, to get into it, hands on. Somebody told me to look
at the College, and I was absolutely flabbergasted at the quality
of education that the College had to offer. It was just incredible.
To further back up his beaming praises of St. Lawrence College,
he says In fact, my son comes here. I would recommend the
College to anyone.
Wayne holds a degree in Math and Physics from Queens University,
he also went to St. Lawrence College where he received an Electronics
Diploma. He has worked in construction where he did surveying, managing
and estimating. He worked for a manufacturing firm, which he computerized
in 1978. He was proud of that accomplishment, and this only further
displays his perceptiveness in the development of technology. Wayne
has also worked at Communication Research Centre. CRC is the Canadian
governments leading centre of expertise in satellite communications,
located at Shirleys Bay, west of Ottawa.. Upon receiving his
Electronics Diploma, he was offered a position to teach through
St. Lawrence College, Kingston. Wayne has taught on all three St.
Lawrence College campuses.
